Earthing Solutions
Need and importance of earthing
- Human and Personnel safety.
- Equipment protection.
- Provides low impedance path for fault currents.
- Protection against lightning and transient currents, noise reductions, Limitation of EMI.
How to Achieve an acceptable ground / earth resistance
The resistance to the earth of a given electrode depends up on electrical resistivity of the soil in which it is installed and the resistance of the electrode. However soil resistivity is the important factor in deciding which of many protective systems to adopt for earthing .
There are various options to lower soil resistivity. One method is to increase the moisture content of the soil, combined with moisture, the salts leach into the soil to reduce earth resistivity. However, this inexpensive process can also cause problems. First, as the salts wash away, the soil reverts to its untreated condition. As a result, we have to recharge the earth pits periodically.
Multiple electrodes even in large number, may sometime fail to produce an adequately low resistance to earth. This is generally witnessed in areas where the soil is resistivity is too high. An alternative is to reduce the resistivity of the soil, in the layers adjacent to the earth electrode. As per IS 3043 : 2018 (Clause 13.8, Page No. 23 of the IS 3043:2018) earth enhancement materials some with a resistivity of less than 0.12 Ohm Mtr are typically paced around the rod in an augured hole in either a dry form or premixed in a slurry. Some of these enhancement materials are permanent and will not leach any chemicals into the ground.
VAHAS Techno Solutions has introduced an illustrious compound Earth- GEMGround enhancement material which is used around the earth electrodes in order to reduce the resistance between soil & the electrode. VAHAS Earth-GEM complies to the latest IS 3043:2018 as the resistivity of VAHAS Earth-GEM is less than 0.12 Ohm Mtr.
Earth Electrode Features
As per Clause 14.2.2, Page No. 26 of the IS 3043:2018, steel core copper rods of minimum 13 mm dia and above can be used for earthing applications.
VAHAS TechnoSolutions supplies copper bonded earth electrodes of 14.2mm, 17.2mm, 25mm 32mm with 100 / 250 Microns Copper Bonding (average) on the outer Surface conforming to the latest IEC standards.
Copper bonded rods are made up of molecular bonding, which is a 99.9% pure electrolytic copper onto a low carbon, high tensile steel core with a thickness of over 0.100 mm (100 microns) / 0.254 mm (254 microns) depending on the application.
The steel rods are resistant to oxidation and give the electrical grounding system a lot of strength and lifespan or in a simple way to understand Copper-bonded earth rods are the industry standard and provide the most cost-effective way for the installer to achieve a low-resistance path to earth,
The lengths of the copper coated steel rods vary between 1200 mm to 3000mm and extendable up to any length.
